How to Have Healthy Hair Like Jojo Levesque

November 19, 2011 Leave a comment

In November 1, Jojo (aka Joanna Levesque) released the official music video from her first single, Disaster, in her album Jumping Trains. Jojo sported long black hair in the Benny Boom-directed Disaster music video, which has 2,790,905 views two weeks after the release. Her hair appeared to be uncombed in most parts of the video but each strand is noticeably healthy, thick, and shiny. How to get healthy hair like hers? Here are some things that you can do. You may be surprised but you do not need to go to a salon.

First, check if you have been shampooing your hair the right way. Comb your hair before taking a bath or shampooing. There should be no tangles. Use lukewarm water especially if you have oily hair. Slightly warm water can get rid of grease and dust way better than cold water. You should also make sure that you are using the right shampoo (i.e. shampoo for dry hair if you have dry hair and shampoo for oily hair if you have oily hair).

Second, evaluate if you have the right hair tools. Do not use brush. Comb gives less friction than brushes but make sure that the comb has normal (not too narrow teeth). You should also make sure that the combs are clean every time you use them.

Third, what you eat does not only show through your body but in your hair as well. A healthy diet can be seen through healthy locks. To improve your hair health, make sure that you eat lots of fruits and vegetables that can provide you with vitamins and minerals. Plus, make sure that you drink a lot of water.

Fourth, you may want to avoid the things that can harm your hair. Some of them are sun exposure, heat from curling irons and blow dryer, and tight ponytails.

Fifth, have a hot oil treatment once a month. Coconut oil can give wonders including hair health. You can opt to get raw coconut oil. Make sure that it is cold. You’ll get wavy to curly hair if you apply hot coconut oil. You can also buy coconut hot oil treatments that are sold in jars. Another option is to visit your favorite salon where someone will do the work for you.

“Hi!” “Who Are You?”

Have you ever experienced being greeted by someone? You know for sure that the two of you already met each other but for some unknown reasons you cannot remember his or her name. It can be awkward. It can be embarrassing.

One afternoon, my father and I was waiting for a bus. A man riding a bike stopped by my father’s side and greeted him. My father responded in such a friendly – with a big smile as usual. They talked and tried to catch up with each other’s life. They seem to be friends or acquaintances. After a few minutes, the man bid goodbye. I was surprised when my father turned to me and asked, “Do you know that guy?”

I answered, “no, why?”

“I don’t know him,” he said.

I burst out a laugh. It turned out that he was mentioning a lot of people while they were talking to know where he met the guy. Unfortunately, the guy left and my father had no idea where the two of them met.

Have you ever experienced forgetting someone’s name? How did you deal with it?

6 Health Benefits of Eating Dark Chocolate

Chocolates come in different colors and tastes. Some are dark and bitter sweet. They are beneficial to one’s health and have been the subject of many scientific studies. These dark chocolates that are usually made from unprocessed cacao can give great health benefits.

This world is just stressing nowadays. Luckily, dark chocolates can treat emotional stress. One just needs to eat 1.5 ounce of dark chocolate every day for two weeks. It was clinically proven. Dark chocolate has the stimulants theobromine and caffeine as well as the anti-depressant serotonin.

Heart Disease
Dark chocolate also have flavonoids. They are anti-oxidants that can help your body fight free radicals. Did you know that the free radicals are one of the main causes of heart disease?

Other great sources of flavonoids are cocoa powder, chocolate syrup, milk chocolate, and semi-sweet chips.

Diabetics’ Blood Vessels
There was a study in 2006 that showed dark chocolates’ efficiency in helping the diabetics improve their blood vessels.

Dark chocolates that have epicatechin also benefit the brain. The compound increases the cellular signals that the nerve cells need for protection thereby protecting the brain against stroke.

High Blood Pressure
Studies also showed that dark chocolates can lower blood pressure.

High Cholesterol
Dark chocolates can reduce the level of bad cholesterol by 10 percent, too.

To enjoy these benefits does not mean that you have to devour packs and packs of dark chocolate every day. Do not consume more than 3.5 ounce of dark chocolate on a regular basis or you’ll suffer more than you’ll benefit. Take note that milk can counteract dark chocolate so do not take both of them at once.

How to Stop Hiccup

September 8, 2006 Leave a comment

You have probably experienced a hiccup. It is an involuntary twitching of the diaphragm. It results to a sudden transfer of air to the lungs making the vocal cords close. You may hear “hic” sounds – several hics per minute. While hiccups are not something to be scared of and will automatically stop after a few minutes, a lot of people are embarrassed when experiencing hiccup in public places. Fortunately, there are some ways to stop hiccup. I know and have tried three. I will not take time to explain why and how each one of them works. I’ll leave it to others. What’s important is that it works for me and let’s just hope that it works for you, too.

Drink Water

I learned this from my mother. It works for me when I did not drink for the past hours or when I did not drink after eating a lot or too quickly (I know it’s weird but I’m the kind of person who always forgets to drink).

I used to drink water right after the first “hic” when I was a kid but I have proven that this does not always work. I heard that hiccups can also be caused by sudden or too much drinking. If you think this is what caused your hiccup, drink water may not solve it at all.

I was in senior high school when I learned this hiccup cure. I have two friends. One of them, the one sitting at the middle, had a hiccup attack. I was laughing at her (mean me). The other girl said that the hiccup will stop with tickling so the two of us tickled her. I was surprised that it actually worked.

Hold Your Breath

The same girl who had a hiccup attack was the one who told me that hiccup can also be cured by holding your breath. I do this when I am having hiccup and no one’s there to tickle me. I do it for 5 to 10 seconds. Sometimes, I need to repeat it. Well, yes, it is not 100% effective.
